The Sims 3 x Vogue - Magazine Design Concept

What if the old, famous magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, etc. exist in Roaring Heights, within The Sims 3 universe?

I designed a sample Vogue magazine with a Sim in it, not only for my personal editorial design practice, but also to visualize how the magazines in Roaring Heights would look like, with my It Girl sims gracing their covers. I also did a bit of the inside pages for practice.

My inspiration mostly came from old magazine covers from the 1930s-1940s, with a more neutral / muted color palette. The pictures used came from my own in-game screenshots.

SimmedUp Magazine Redesign Concept

I was supposed to join the SimmedUp‘s front cover contest before their launch, but I wasn’t able to finish this due to my heavy workload back then. But then, I decided to just finish what I started, polished and finalized it before posting it on my portfolio. I also did a few inner pages to practice my editorial design skills.

The design / style was inspired by The Sims’ retro and quirky charm, and I wanted that to reflect on the magazine by using colorful and retro-style fonts, and a combo of muted and bright color palette. With the layout, I wanted to adapt our contemporary magazines’ modern, clean and minimalist look to help the photos and text stand out.
